Modern Art Movements
The Modern Art Movements are an ideology of artworks produced from the 1860’s -1970’s. During the Modern Art Movement, new revolutionary notions were introduced as artists began to rebel against the traditional compositional norms set from previous eras. Artists began to explore new techniques and tonal qualities as they begin to embrace the political, social and economic changes of the industrialized society.
In stark contrast to its predecessors, modern artists began focusing on the middle and lower classes of society. Modernists created paintings to show the mistreatment of the poor and the ills of a society caught up in the past and educated the public of the ideal of freedom and equality. Artists explored different techniques to express their emotions to convey a message to the audience. Broken brushstrokes, vivid use of colours, pointillism, cubism, and abstract and visible brush strokes were all pioneered by different modernists, which impacted how art is viewed in today’s society...
